About

This blog is a work of fiction. It is meant to be used as a class project for Geography at JSCC (Jefferson State Community College) and while real world places, themes, photos, maps, etc. are real, the concept and blog postings are all fictional.

The project and these pages were conceived of offline and primary writing done as well. Pages with links, home page information, etc. and transferring all to the web site was done on 12/7/2011.

GEO 100

World Regional Geography

Fall 2011

Class Project

During the semester, you will create an itinerary for a 5 week trip around the world. Money is no object. You have 35 days to travel to each region that is covered in your text (listed below). Since traveling without a plan is no fun, your trip must have "theme." For example, if you like to fish, you could take a fishing trip around the world. Your theme can be whatever you choose. I don’t consider sightseeing a good theme; try to think of something you like and then see what’s available out there. If you need help coming up with a good theme, let me know and I can help you narrow it down.

Your grade will be determined by traveling to each region assigned (9 points), the details in your itinerary (10 points), your theme (6 points), and creativity (15 points). The more detailed and creative your plans are, the better your grade will be (out of 40). For example, using the above example, some details that would impress would be the name of the water body you would fish in, what types of fish you may catch, etc. Details could also include where you would stay, the type of food you would be eating, money used, entertainment venues, etc. Creativity includes the use of pictures, maps, etc. for each place that you visit. You must include a map of the location (I recommend downloading Google Earth [http://earth.google.com/] or using ArcGIS Online [http://explorer.arcgis.com/]).

Please be creative and accurate with your details. I don’t want to see that you are eating at McDonald’s everywhere you go (and if you think that sounds good, you should watch "Supersize Me"). Use the Internet to research local establishments and entertainment venues. If you find a useful link, please share it with the rest of us.

You may turn in your project at any time for comments; however, final projects are due on December 7th.

Regions you must visit: Europe Oceania
